I.P.M.

What is it:  A way to remove pests and rodents from homes and workplaces.  IPM is a common sense approach that denies pests/rodents essential means for survival.

- food, water, shelter, path to enter

Why use IPM:  IPM strategies apply pesticides only as needed and use the least hazardous to control pests.

-IPM is safer (avoiding pesticides is especially important in homes)

WHAT CAN YOU DO!

  • CLEAN UP FOOD AND DRINK SPILLS RIGHT AWAY
  • REMOVE CLUTTER (SUCH AS CARDBOARD BOXES OR PAPER) SO PESTS HAVE FEWER PLACES TO HIDE
  • PUT FOOD IN TIGHTLY SEALED CONTAINERS, SUCH AS PLASTIC WITH TIGHT LIDS. DO NOT LEAVE OPEN CONTAINERS OF FOOD ON COUNTERS OR IN CABINETS. PUT PET FOOD DISHES AWAY OVERNIGHT.
  • KEEP TRASH IN A CLOSED CONTAINER AND TAKE OUT FREQUENTLY, EVERY DAY IF POSSIBLE. DON’T LET TRASH PILE UP OUTSIDE
  • FIX PLUMBING OR OTHER WATER LEAKS.  PESTS NEED WATER TO SURVIVE.
  • SEAL CRACKS AND HOLES.  USE A CAULK GUN TO SEAL CRACKS AROUND BASEBOARDS, SHELVES, PIPES, SINKS, AND BATHROOM FIXTURES.
  • CLOSING DOCK/RECEIVING DOORS WHEN THERE AREN’T DELIVERIES
  • WATERING PLANTS ONLY AS NEEDED
  • KEEP WOODPILES (YARD DEBRIS) AWAY FROM HOUSE/BUILDING
  • KEEP TREE LIMBS TRIMMED AWAY FROM HOUSE/BUILDING
  • CORRECT STANDING WATER ISSUES
  • KEEP WINDOWS AND DOORS CLOSED WHEN APPROPRIATE
